GoPro How To: Camara en el nose (SUP) / Nose mounting (SUP)

¿Como fijar al nose de tu tabla to querida GoPro de manera segura?. En este how-to voy a explicar como hacerlo en tablas de SUP totalmente cubiertas de pad, donde no se puede aplicar la base adhesiva que viene con los modelos GoPro® HD Surf HERO™ Camera.
Materiales necesarios: una base plana adhesiva GoPro, una guía cables de las utilizadas por electricistas (ver fotos), pegamento epoxi, y un cutter.

En primer lugar, hay que decidir donde se quiere colocar la cámara. Yo recomiendo colocarla a unos 20cm de la punta de la tabla para una 10’5” como la mía (si es más corta, reducir la distancia), para que así esté un poco más protegida de posibles impactos al mover tu voluminosa y pesada tabla de SUP. Una vez decidida la posición, presenta la base plana adhesiva (sin el adhesivo 3M), perfectamente centrada en la tabla, y perfila la base cortando suavemente con un cutter. Una vez acabas de perfilar, ya puedes retirar la base, y acabar de recortar con cuidado toda el area de la base.

El siguiente paso, es colocar un segundo punto de seguridad en el que fijar el leash que viene con la cámara. Para hacer esto yo recomiendo una pequeña guía de las que utilizan los electricistas para guiar cables, y proceder de la misma manera que en el párrafo anterior: colocar la guía a una distancia que te permita de manera FACIL enlazar el leash de la cámara y después introducirla en la base haciendo clip. Yo lo coloco a unos 5cm más hacia la punta de la tabla y un poco desplazado lateralmente. Una vez decidida la posición exacta, perfilar la guía suavemente con el cutter, y después eliminar totalmente de pad el área de la misma.

Ahora ya puedes proceder a limpiar las dos areas en las que has quitado el pad, y yo recomiendo también hacer algunos cortes con el cutter en la base de la guía y de la base plana, para que el pegamento epoxy penetre mejor y aumente la adherencia. Ahora puedes proceder a pegar con el epoxy tanto la base como la guía, y dejarlos secar, SIN MOVERLOS durante unas 48 horas. Ten mucho cuidado en que permanezcan en reposo durante las 48h, en una posición perfectamente plana respecto al suelo, para impedir que se desplacen mientras el epoxy no se seca.

Después de dos días, puedes eliminar el resto de epoxy que sobresalga de la base y la guía y ya está: Tienes una fijación segura y espectacular para tu GoPro, con una segunda fijación de seguriddad: No vas a perder tu cámara.

Ahora sólo es cuestión de mejorar tu surf para conseguir videos más espectaculares.

How to fix in a safely manner your loving GoPro to the nose of your board?. In this how-to I will concentrate on fully padded SUP boards, where you can’t apply the GoPro Base plate with the 3M adhesive that comes in all GoPro® HD Surf HERO™ Camera packages.


Materials needed: a GoPro flat adhesive mount, a plastic fixing used to guide electrical cables or similar (see photos), epoxy, and a cutter.


First of all, you have to decide where you want to locate the camera. I recommend to put it about 7” from the tip of the board (for a 10’5” board as mine. For shorter boards, reduce this measure accordingly) in order to protect it from possible impacts when manipulating your heavy and big SUP board. Once decided, position the flat adhesive mount (without adhesive), perfectly centered on the board, and gently outline the full perimeter of the mount with the cutter. Once done, you can proceed to fully cut off the pad on the full area of the mount.


Next step is the location of the safety fixing to attach the security leash of the camera. For doing this I used a small plastic fixing as the ones used by electricians, and proceed the same way as in the previous paragraph: locate the fixing at a distance that allows you to EASILY loop around the leash of the camera and to clip the camera to the mount. I located it about 2” more forward and little bit displaced to one side. Once decided the most correct position, gently outline it with the cutter, and then proceed to fully cut off the pad on the full area of the fixing.


Now you can proceed to clean well the surface of the board on the two spots were you removed the pad, and I also recommend some cuts with the cutter on the surface of both the mount and fixing to help the epoxy glue to grip. Now you can proceed to epoxy glue both the mount and the fixing and let it dry WITHOUT MOVING IT for 48 hours. Be very careful for both the mount and the fixing to rest for 48h. in a perfectly horizontal position relative to the floor in order to prevent them moving while the epoxy glue is still not dry.


After two days, you can remove any excess glue from both the mount and the fixing and here it is: You have a strong fixing point for you GoPro, with a securtiy secondary leash fixation: You won’t lose the camera.


Now it’s only a matter of improving your surfing abilities to get bettter results from your videos.
